WOMEN TO WATCH

Cheesa Williams

Director of Communications & Marketing
Jacksonville North Pulaski County School District

After nearly 20 years in television news as a reporter, producer and anchor, I transitioned in 2018 to prioritize family and purpose. I now serve as director of communications and marketing for the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District, leading storytelling, media relations and strategic outreach to highlight our scholars, staff and the district’s impact across multiple platforms.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

Education takes a village. It’s not the school system’s job alone. Parents and communities must help raise and support children.

Biggest challenges in my career

Managing high-pressure communication during crises and public scrutiny while ensuring our families feel informed, supported and confident in our schools.

Best advice I ever received

You have to teach people how to treat you. Your boundaries and behavior show people what is acceptable and what is not.

Nonprofit I wish more people knew about

The Jacksonville Education Foundation. It enhances education in Jacksonville Public Schools by funding meaningful programs that truly make a difference and recognize excellence consistently.

How I knew this was my passion

I use creativity and storytelling to uplift others, bringing positive stories to life and truly celebrating the excellence of our scholars and staff.

Best career moment so far

My best career moments were winning an Emmy Award in 2018 for television news producing and being named District Classified Employee of the Year in 2023 for Jacksonville North Pulaski.

What I learned from my first job

At 16, my first job taught me that showing up and working hard builds discipline, independence and opportunity, lessons that continue to guide me today.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

Resisting saying no when our youngest scholars ask for hugs. It’s the sweetest challenge and a reminder of why I love this work.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

Intentionally unplugging, spending quality time with my family and giving myself space to reset and recharge.

The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall

Pause, reassess the situation and create a new strategy with a clear plan forward.
