WOMEN TO WATCH

Amy Hester

Owner/Stylist
Red Beauty Lounge

I began my career as a stylist at Joel’s in 2001 until I opened Red Beauty Lounge on April 2, 2014. I have five talented stylists working for me. Together we are a great team. At Red, we all strive to enhance our clients’ natural beauty while making them feel comfortable and at home. My second job this year has been president of the Contemporaries at the Arkansas Arts Center. The board and I work on a series of exclusive events for members to cultivate the next generation of AAC supporters.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

How did you know this is what you wanted to do?

When I was a child, my mother would get so angry after picking up the developed film from the family camera. Half the roll would be “before” and “after” shots of my 6-year-old sister, full makeup and hair!

Best moment of your career so far?

The opening day of my very own business! I knew for years it was time to make the move. Fear and frustration held me back until I woke up telling my husband it was now or never!

Best advice you've ever received?

Customer service is the most important two words in business.

Favorite part of living in Little Rock?

Being a proud supporter and volunteer of the Arkansas Arts Center is my favorite part of living in Little Rock. We have one of the leading cultural institutions right at our fingertips.

I wish I knew how to ________.

I wish I knew how to sing. I mean really sing, not like taking over the Spotify playlist and microphone at a friend’s party.

If you could have lunch with any woman, who would it be and what would you order?

Fashion journalist Elsa Klensch. I watched “Style With Elsa Klensch” on CNN every Saturday morning in the '80s. Elsa’s segment dealt with fashion and design around the world. We would share champagne and french fries.
