After traveling the world for 13 years educating hairdressers, Kim Carter and I opened CARTER MILLER salon in 2019 in the heart of Hillcrest. Along with owning and seeing clients in the salon, I continue to work as a national master trainer for Davines (an international B-corp), the Italian product line which we exclusively carry in our salon.

PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
My Nana was a hairdresser and Pops was a barber. After two years at Ouachita Baptist University studying sociology, I left to go to cosmetology school and have never looked back.
Biggest challenges in my career
We opened our salon in March of 2019 and celebrated our one year anniversary, to the day, by having to close our doors due to the pandemic. Ugh...
Nonprofit I wish more people knew about
The Beverly Carter Foundation is an amazing organization that educates about realtor safety, and Camp Aldersgate is a camp that creates life-changing experiences for children with special needs and medical conditions.
Best advice I ever received
A vocation is equally – if not more – valuable than a college degree.
Best career moment so far
Surviving the pandemic (salons were one of the hardest hit industries) and doubling the size of the salon while providing more jobs to our community.
My first job and what it taught me
I worked at The GAP in high school. That job prepared me for what I do now ... customer service, merchandising and managing people!
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
The women who work with us! Knowing that they rely on everything we do as business owners to provide for themselves and their families makes the stress worth it.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Working with contractors, which, as it turns out, is one of my favorite things. Building out and expanding the salon could not have happened without our amazing contractors.
