I started in retail years ago working for Connie Fails. She taught me to buy, merchandise, etc. I assumed I had a path in retail. But when I started doing books and accounting to pay my way through college, I never quit. I ended up with Blackbean Accounting doing financials for not only car dealerships, lawyers, restaurants and PR firms but quite a few retailers. After years in the numbers world I needed a creative outlet. That’s why I opened Bologna Joe’s; it was a labor of love.

What is a typical workday like?

Different every day. Usually filled with client phone calls and meetings to go over numbers and money. Running payroll for clients. Picking out merchandise for the store. Hanging out at the front counter meeting customers. Playing Galaga. Cleaning toilets.

How did you know this is what you wanted to do?

I stopped trying to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up and began to focus on doing what I was doing. My world began to unfold and open up.

I wish I knew how to__________.

Fly fish better. I plan on conquering that this summer and fall. I have two guide trips bought and planned in Heber Springs and Steamboat. This is first on the list.

If you could lunch with any woman, who would it be?

My mom. She doesn’t live here, and so I don’t get to see her enough. When I do there is usually one of her 15 grandkids around. Any moment that I can soak up alone with her is worth it.

What advice would you give your 18 year old self?

I can’t say that I would. Being reckless at 18 turned me into a more thoughtful adult. It’s been very beneficial. Not that I would promote that for my kids. It’s just my story.

Best career moment so far:

I loved opening Bologna Joe’s children’s boutique. That was such a challenge. To watch the idea turn into a reality was beautiful. And now to get to be a part of this community in an entirely new way. I feel so grateful.

Best advice you've ever received:`

What you give energy to, grows. What you appreciate, appreciates. You can take that either way. But taking heed to it changed my life.

Who is your role model?

Get ready to roll your eyes — My husband. Rick is wicked smart, he amazes me with his intellect. But his ability to stay grounded, not get caught up in the trivial and see things
