In conjunction with my years as a practicing physician, I serve as chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Service Line Director for Women’s Health at UAMS. Each role gives me a unique perspective to care for and advocate for my patients, whether that be in the clinic or on a statewide platform.

Biggest challenges in my career

Creating a balance between career and family. My family will always come first, but that balance changes every few years. I have to stop, evaluate and pivot as needed.

What I learned from my first job

As a hostess at a local restaurant in Little Rock, I learned to treat everyone as I would like to be treated.

What keeps me coming back to my job every day

The work and the people. I work with the most amazing group of physicians, APRNs, residents, sonographers and leaders.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

Multitasking takes on a whole new level. During my days I have tons of balls in the air at one time, hoping none fall.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

Exercise saves me when I get inside my head too much. That and a good girl’s night.

Best advice I ever received

“Pick something to do in life that you will enjoy even on your worst days” and “No one ever regretted asking for help.” The last one I used postpartum when life was really upside down.

The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall

Time is the best perspective. I cannot count the times I’ve told myself this. I will step back for hours or days or weeks and gain that perspective and come back even better.

Best career moment so far

Caring for multiple generations within families is rewarding on a whole new level. First, that they trust me but second, being a part of their lives in these special times is truly and honor.
