Winthrop Rockefeller Institute to Host Grow Your Groceries Workshop Featuring Owners of The Root Café

Springtime is right around the corner and with spring coming, you have probably thought about eating a little healthier. But you might also be thinking, “Why would I eat healthy when chips and cookies are cheaper than fruits and vegetables?” Well, never fear; we have a solution.

On March 21-22, the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute is hosting a Grow Your Groceries workshop, which will give hands-on training on how to grow vegetables, herbs and garden fruits so you don’t have to pay for an expensive, healthy grocery bill.

You’ll learn the growing ropes from Janet Carson, extension horticulture specialist with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and state coordinator for the Arkansas Master Gardener program.

Little Rock’s own Jack and Corri Sundell, owners of The Root Café, will also be demonstrating how to cook what you grow in your garden. We want to warn you though, after a lesson from some of our city’s best, you will certainly become your family and friends’ favorite chef.

To get the full hands-on training experience, attendees will stay overnight and be treated to breakfast the next morning.

For $220 you can join the fun and forgo future purchases of fruits and vegetables — talk about a lifetime of savings! The price includes lodging, three meals at the River Rock Grill, plus the gardening and cooking classes. For registration and a full schedule, visit the Rockefeller Institute website.

You can also learn more about Jack Sundell and The Root in the cover story of the 2015 Arkansas Green Guide, available on stands now. Check it out.
