In life, it generally pays to be of a “glass half full” mentality. That goes double for the Little Rock Zoo’s annual Wild Wines event.
The two-night experience, which includes a VIP event on April 27 and the Mane Event on April 28, features more than 250 wines, eats from dozens of area restaurants, live music and visits from some of the zoo’s furry, feathered and scaly inhabitants, with all proceeds benefiting the Arkansas Zoological Foundation.
To whet your appetite, Seth Barlow of Wild Wines beverage partner O’Looney’s Wine & Liquor outlined some of the more delectable vino offered, as well as the perfect pairing for each glass.
Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee
Described as Iron Horse’s “most romantic bubbly,” this is fruit forward and dry with small bubbles and extended finish.
Pairs well with: classic shrimp scampi
Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Known for its “aromas of vanilla, cassis and sage” from American oak barrel aging, this wine has hints of raspberry offset by a lingering acidity and tannins finish.
Pairs well with: smoked pork shoulder
Krupp Brothers M5 Cabernet Sauvignon
Noted for its “opulent aromas of blackberry, lush dark plum, violets and a hint of orange marmalade,” this wine has essences of cassis, anise and bittersweet chocolate.
Pairs well with: a seasoned rib-eye or steak dish
Both Wild Wines events get started at 7 p.m. each night. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Little Rock Zoo website.
