Where We Live: Courtney and Jamie McLarty of Pleasant Valley

Courtney and Jamie McLarty have lived in Pleasant Valley for 11 years of their 15-year marriage, and it’s the only home their two children, Mary Jett, 13, and Cole, 10, have known.

The family-friendly nature of the neighborhood is just one of the things that drew them in.

“My parents lived in Pleasant Valley,” says Courtney, “and we have always loved the neighborhood. There is so much green space, plus a fabulous park and pool on our street. That was a big draw for us, especially because we had a toddler when we bought our house.”

The Vice President of Claims Management/Claims Counsel at Stephens Insurance, LLC, and the Branch Manager at River City Materials, respectively, Courtney and Jamie were also charmed by the welcoming spirit and laid-back pace of the neighborhood and its residents.

“We have potlucks at the pool in the summer, walk with the dogs and the kids, cruise around in our golf cart, swing at the park, or just sit on the porch and watch the world go by,” Courtney says.

The McLartys love the neighborhood so much they even find their homes’ little imperfections endearing. For instance, Courtney says after moving in they discovered none of the light fixtures are centered. “Everything is a little wonky,” she laughs. “Gives it character.”

Below, Courtney shares more of the reasons Pleasant Valley is perfect for them.

Pleasant Valley Favorites:

GREEN SPACES. “[Pleasant Valley has] two pools and two parks, huge green space with a creek right across the street from our house, and we have great neighbors. We love to spend time outdoors as a family, and being close to the Two Rivers Trail access and the trail to the Big Dam Bridge is convenient.”

FAMILY FRIENDLY. “There are a lot of children in the neighborhood, so there is always someone for the kids to hang out with. The kids ride bikes, build forts in the green space and play in the creek. They are able to have a certain amount of freedom to just go be kids.”

DINING OPTIONS APLENTY. “Jamie and I love The Pantry for time with adult friends; the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food is super. With the kids, we like to go to Señor Tequila and enjoy the patio and some cheese dip.”

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. “It’s centrally located. You can hit Cantrell or the Interstate and be just about anywhere in town.”
