What to Expect at Rhythm on the River

Having a hard time waiting for the ASO’s annual Opus gala in the fall? You’re not alone.

To help tide you over, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Guild will host its second Rhythm on the River event, slated for Friday, April 12, at the ballroom of the Junior League of Little Rock Building. But unlike Opus, you don’t need to don your ballgowns and tuxes. Rhythm on the River is a casual night of dinner by Gina’s Catering, drinks and dancing to the unique rock/oldies sounds of The B Flats.

The ASO Guild is a nonprofit organization comprised of dedicated volunteers. The group raises money for the ASO in a variety of ways, including the Symphony Designer House. They also provide numerous music education opportunities for children to experience symphonic music.

“Our major fundraiser is the Symphony Designer House,” ASO Guild chairperson Michael Upson says, “but that’s every other year. We had our first [Rhythm on the River event] two years ago. It was such a success that the Guild voted to have this as our off-year fundraiser.”

All of the money raised from Rhythm on the River will go toward music education events. The ASO Guild hopes that, with these proceeds, it can pay for any child who wants to attend one of the Children’s Concerts.

“These concerts are only $5 per child, but a lot of times we have kids who can’t afford the $5,” Upson says. “That’s why I look forward to this event, so we can raise enough money to make sure that we don’t have to charge any student for the Children’s Concerts so they can have the exposure of the symphony.”

Cocktail hour at Rhythm on the River will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing from 7-11. Click here to get your tickets.
