Like most other weekends, there should be something for all in the metro area. Whether it’s a wine tasting class, yoga, art or plays, there’s plenty of events to sample from in Little Rock.
Thursday (July 17)
Wine Class at Ciao Italian Restaurant, 405 W. 7th St., Little Rock: It’s time for the monthly wine class at Ciao in downtown Little Rock. The class will be taught by Jeff Yant. His down-to-earth personality and wine knowledge make this class a must-attend. Appetizers will be served with the wine, and guests are also welcome to order dinner. The class is $20 per person. Saturday (July 19)
Yoga on the River at First Security Amphitheater, 400 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock: If you’re looking for a peaceful start to your Saturday morning, consider a yoga class in the River Market District overlooking the Arkansas River. It’s free and open to all ages and experience levels. The class runs from 8-9 a.m.
Block party at The Green Corner Store & Soda Fountain, 1423 Main St., Suite D, Little Rock: The Green Corner Store is turning five years old, and to mark the occasion, it’s throwing one heck of a party this weekend! The party starts at 4 p.m. Saturday and includes local vendors, Loblolly Creamery, street entertainment from Recreation Studio, live sketching from George Wittenberg, food trucks and much, much more. Ann Laser Open House at M2 Gallery, 11525 Cantrell Road, Little Rock: Arkansas native Ann Laser, an award-winning mixed media artist, will be at the M2 Gallery on Saturday night to showcase some her latest paintings and works from her Tea Bag Project. Laser, who now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, recently spent two weeks at the Skopelus Foundation of Arts in Greece. Twilight 5K Run/Walk at Murray Park, Rebsamen Park Road, Little Rock: Come take part in the 5k at night to help the Arkansas Foundation for Skin Cancer and the Big Dam Bridge Foundation raise awareness for skin cancer. The event includes free skin cancer screenings before the race, live music, food and children’s activities. Early registration is available for $25 at Rock City Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. 48 Hour Film Project ‘Best of’ Ceremony & Top 10 Screening at Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock: Last week the works of several Little Rock area filmmakers were shown at the 48 Hour Film Project. This week, the top 10 films, as chosen by the audience, will be re-aired Saturday night at the Ron Robinson Theater. Along with the re-screenings is an awards ceremony to recognize Best Film, Best Director, Best Performance, Best Story and many other categories. Tickets to the event are $12 and can be purchased here.
Sunday (July 20)
National Ice Cream Day, Little Rock: Sunday is a day to celebrate. In addition to being off work, this coming Sunday is also National Ice Cream Day. Both Yarnell’s Ice Cream and The Purple Cow restaurants are taking part in the wondrous day. Yarnell’s will be giving out free cups of vanilla ice cream from 1-3 p.m. at the Riverfront Park at 400 President Clinton Ave. Kids will also get to see Scoop, the Yarnell’s mascot. At all four Purple Cow locations in central Arkansas, you’ll get a free one-scoop sundae for mentioning you heard about National Ice Cream Day from Soirée!

“RENT“ at Community Theatre of Little Rock, 328 W. 7th St., Little Rock: This Tony Awards and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is the final show of the Community Theatre’s 58th season. The musical follows a group of impoverished young artists and musicians in New York City’s Lower East Side. It has showtimes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Friday-Sunday (July 18-20)
“Next To Normal” at The Weekend Theater, 1001 W. 7th St., Little Rock: This musical tells the story of a mother who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effects it has on her family. The Tony Awards and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is directed by Ralph Hyman, with musical direction from Lori Isner. The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
