Thursday (Sept. 4)
“Memphis” Director Talks at Arkansas Repertory Theatre, 601 Main St., Little Rock: Bob Hupp, producing artistic director for “Memphis,” will speak before the preview show Thursday night. The event is free and starts at 6:15 p.m. Hupp and members of the cast will be at the Clinton School of Public Service from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday for a panel discussion. Shop N Sip in Hillcrest, Little Rock: On the first Thursday of each month, the shops in Hillcrest are open late. “Memphis” at Arkansas Repertory Theatre, 601 Main St., Little Rock: The first show of The Rep’s current performance season brings a Tony Awards-winning musical that chronicles Dewey Phillips, one of the first white DJs to play black music in the 1950s. The musical features music and lyrics by David Bryan and is based on the book by Joe DiPietro, which is loosely based on the Memphis disc jockey.
