Weekend Guide: 8 Activities Around the Rock

The city is slowly getting back to its pre-holiday pace, but there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the meantime.

Friday, Jan. 10

Second Friday Art Night in downtown Little Rock: Bring on the 2FAN. It’s time for the monthly roundup of downtown businesses opening their doors for an after-hours gallery walk. Highlights include a meet-and-greet with members of the ASO Quapaw String Quartet at The Bookstore at Library Square and artist talks at The New Gallery. The fun lasts 5-8 p.m. For more info, click here.

SoMa After Dark in the South Main District: One of Little Rock’s most unique neighborhoods finally got its own bash. Expect to see local businesses offering later hours and activities tailored to their specialties. Stop in at any of your favorite haunts and make sure to check out the pasta and prosecco at The Green Corner Store. It all starts at 5 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday, Jan. 11

Grand Re-Opening at Nexus Coffee & Creative: We’ll raise a mug to this. One of downtown’s favorite coffee shops is doubling (!!) in size and is celebrating all day to mark the occasion. Guests can get in on brunch from Crave, a lineup of live local music and more. Shop hours are 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. For more info, click here.

Vinyl Brunch at Stone’s Throw Brewing: Saturday morning doesn’t get easier than this. Now at the brewery’s Stifft Station location, this weekly setup features a record player where you can share your favorite albums, eats from Low Ivy Catering and, of course, delicious brews. Stop in from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more info, click here.

Love Them First” Screening at Ron Robinson Theater: The Lucy Laney Elementary in north Minneapolis is at the center of this documentary exploring what happens when a school’s focus is on the heart. The free screening begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by a conversation with filmmaker Ben Garvin moderated by Senator Joyce Elliott. For more info, click here.

Block, Beer & Bourbon (and Burgundy!) at the Albert Pike Masonic Center: Now this is what we call a good pairing. This annual event is a fundraiser to support local public radio stations KUAR and KLRE, and will serve up all the beer, bourbon and live music you could want. Expect bites from The Pantry and a curated selection of craft beer, bourbon and burgundy wines from O’Looney’s Wine and Liquor, all set to the sounds of the Rodney Block Collective. The fun starts at 6 p.m. For more info, click here.

Sunday, Jan. 12

National Hot Tea Day at Abbi’s Teas & Things: The holidays may be over for the rest of us, but this Hillcrest tea shop still has one up its sleeve. National Hot Tea Day at Abbi’s means all-you-can-sip deliciousness for $5 with blends like spiced apple chai, citrus mint and blueberry basil. Stop in 1-6 p.m. For more info, click here
