Weekend (at Home) Guide: 9 Activities to Send Off May in Style

Expect lots of ice cream.

Friday, May 29

Rain Gardening and Green Infrastructure Workshop: All this time at home has us itching to work on our green spaces, and that means learning a few new tricks. We’re not the only ones who’d never heard of a rain garden before, right? We’ll get the chance to remedy that at this Zoom sesh with UA Division of Agriculture Extension water quality educator John Pennington. Class starts at 10:30 a.m. For more info, click here.

Virtual Wine Dinner with Table 28: Yep, it’s official. Online wine dinners are our new favorite quarantine thing. Three courses and three featured wines await in this dinner for two, along with a Facebook Live video to round out the experience. Dinner starts at 4 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday, May 30

Research Your Historic House Online Course: If you enjoy the knowledge of Bob Villa and the detective work of Olivia Benson (help, we’ve been quarantined too long), this class is for you. Students will get a how-to, tips and tricks for navigating the National Register of Historic Places, plus more historic goodness. The Zoom class starts at 10 a.m. For more info, click here.

The White Water Tavern Market: If you’re trying to avoid the grocery store, skip the middleman and hit the farmers market in the Tavern parking lot. Just make sure to follow the social distance rules they put in place. Stop in 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more info, click here.

Drive-Thru Karaoke at Stone’s Throw Brewing: MacArthur Park is getting a show this weekend. When you stop in to restock your brews, you can throw down some tunes, drop the mic and be on your way. Groove is in the heart, indeed. Swing by 4-7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Thursday-Saturday, May 28-30

Drive-In Movie Theater Pop-Up at 7318 Wind Song Drive: NLR’s new drive-in may only be a week old, but it’s bringing the distanced entertainment this weekend. On the lineup is a screening of Pink Floyd Live at Pompei on Thursday, a live dueling piano show on Friday and a screening of the horror anthology “10 31” on Saturday.

Made in Arkansas Film Festival: After a successful launch last year, the fest returns, though in virtual fashion. Folks have been enjoying the talents of local filmmakers from the comfort of their couches all week, including voting for their favorites, and the fun wraps up Saturday night. For more info, click here.

Speaking of voting, have you seen our Cutest Dog Contest yet?

Sunday, May 31

Painting + Yoga Class: Painting With a Twist has been holding virtual painting classes for the past couple months, but this one comes with an extra dose of zen, aka a complimentary yoga session. The class starts at 2 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday & Sunday, May 30 & 31

Curbside Ice Cream Brunch at At the Corner: Somehow this downtown diner always knows just what we need, and this is it. At the Corner held its fourth annual Ice Cream Brunch in February, but they’re bringing it back for a much-needed morale boost with Loblolly Creamery in tow. We’re talking everything from ice cream poutine to ice cream cake crepes, if past menus are any indication. Get your fill from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more info, click here.
