Weekend (at Home) Guide: 15 Events for Springtime Fun

Sunshine and good vibes are in the forecast this weekend. Here’s how to take advantage of both.

Friday, May 8

Virtual Empty Bowls: The Arkansas Foodbank’s signature event is going digital this year as well, but they’re making the goodness last all day. It’s all about the virtual auction, which is open now through midnight Friday night. Catch more in the livestream event with THV11 at 9 a.m. For more info, click here.

Virtual Second Friday Art Night: 2FAN is back. After two months off, the after-hours gallery walk of downtown businesses will look a little different in May, just like everything else these days. From the Old State House Museum to Nexus Coffee to Bella Vita Jewelry and everything in between, galleries and shops will host tours, activities and performances on Facebook Live, all scheduled out so you don’t miss a thing. The fun runs 5-8 p.m. For more info, click here.

DIY Mother’s Day Facials with The Floating Lotus: Last week, we told you about this spa and yoga studio’s new self-care routine. This week they’re going live on Facebook and Instagram to walk you through making a special strawberry and yogurt face mask for Mother’s Day. The relaxation kicks off at 5:30 p.m. For more info, click here.

Virtual “Hard Ticket to Hawaii” Screening with CALS: Time to laugh at more bad movies. The free BingoFlix series is back offering prizes to the eagle-eyed viewers who can fill up their bingo card with hilariously awful cliches. This showing features the 1987 shoot-’em-up with a Hawaiian drug kingpin hunt, because of course it does. Showtime is 7 p.m. For more info, click here

Virtual Dinner on the Grounds: This Our House event typically features an alfresco feast under the Arkansas stars, and although we’re keeping our distance this year, it’s still bringing fun. Virtual guests will enjoy a livestream concert with local fan-favorite performers Lagniappe. The event begins at 7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday, May 9

Young Arkansas Artists Virtual Family Festival: This annual Arkansas Arts Center show features artwork from kids all over the state. The exhibit opens digitally this year with a Facebook Live presentation of the pieces, as well as some family-friendly, at-home art activities. The fest starts at 11:30 a.m. For more information, click here

Friday & Saturday, May 8 & 9

Curbside Music and Food Celebration at The Library Kitchen + Lounge: Time to say thanks with a little fun in tow. The River Market restaurant is handing out free eats to first responders on Friday and teachers on Saturday (and yes, the typical curbside menu is available to everyone else, too), as well as live music to enjoy from a distance. Stop in 3-8 p.m. For more info, click here.

Sunday, May 10

Mother’s Day in Little Rock: In case you forgot — we won’t tell — Sunday is Mother’s Day. Little Rock is ripe with restaurants offering brunch specials for the big day, and we rounded up seven of the best here. And if you need to do some shopping, you can find our luxe gift guide here, some Insa faves Mom loves here and local goodies here.

The Yarn: Stories on Motherhood: The Yarn storytelling initiative is diving into all things motherhood — biological, foster, chosen and beyond. The virtual show starts at 7 p.m. For more info, click here.

Saturday & Sunday, May 9 & 10

Encore Performances with Ballet Arkansas: Just because a global pandemic makes you cancel your season doesn’t mean you can’t still share your beauty with the world. Each weekend Ballet Arkansas broadcasts one of its past shows and keeps it up for a few days for viewers to watch at their leisure. Keep an eye on their website for details on what show to expect.
