At the fifth annual Soirée Women’s Leadership Symposium, soccer legend and gender equality advocate Mia Hamm sat down in front of more than 500 local woman, where she spoke on empowerment, team building and “messing up a whole lot” throughout her career as a professional athlete, business owner, foundation creator and mother.
Hamm retired from professional soccer in 2004 with multiple World Cups and an Olympic gold medal, and has since been an outspoken advocate for Title IX and gender equality, as well as part-owner of the MLS’ Los Angeles Football Club and the expansion franchise Angel FC of the NWSL. She created the Mia Hamm Foundation, which supports families in need of bone marrow or cord blood transplants and builds opportunities for young women in sports, and she’s been paving the way for women and athletes for more than 20 years.
If you missed the sold-out event, you’re in luck. Select footage of SWLS 2023 is now available online, including Hamm’s full session, which you can watch below.
Grab some paper, a pen and get comfortable. It’s time to take notes.
