Voting to Begin on Storm Drain Art Project Wednesday

Storm drains around the city received a facelift of sorts thanks to local artists participating in the 2015 Drain Smart program – an envirnomental public art project designed to raise awareness about water quality protection.

Now it’s your turn to vote. Starting Wednesday, June 10, vote for your favorite artist and mural at each of the three areas – South Main, War Memorial Corridor, downtown and River Market area. The winner receives bragging rights and a $500 Visa gift card.

Drain Smart is hosting a kick-off fundraising event at the Arkansas Arts Center Tuesday, June 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There you can meet the artists, learn about their art, and learn about protecting the city’s water quality.

“Just having the artists on the street working on their murals is already leading to public and media attention. When people realize where storm drains lead, they will think twice before they dump anything down those drains or onto the street,” said Drain Smart organizer Dan Scheiman. Voting will take place through the end of the month. Cast your vote here.
