Heifer International‘s new Urban Farm is calling our names.
The cozy red barn is located right behind Heifer Village downtown and it’s filled with goats (including adorable babies), pigs, alpacas, chickens and turkeys.
The farm features animals that the organization provides families through its projects. For example, donors can buy a goat or alpaca for a family in need in an area where Heifer serves. At Heifer Village, visitors can also learn about how the families in other countries use those animals.
The 3-acre area is also home to a community garden, beehives and butterfly garden. It’s like being out in the country — but then you look up and see the Little Rock skyline!
The farm is always open when Heifer Village is open so visitors can spend time with the animals. It’s also free to visit, just like the museum portion of the facility, but donations are always accepted.
On Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. there will be a backyard gardening and planning for spring session at the community garden. Attendees can visit the farm following the class. For more infomation, e-mail urban.farm@heifer.org.
