Susannah T. Marshall
Bank Commissioner, Arkansas State Bank Department
About me: I grew up in Newport, Arkansas, attended Hendrix College and graduated with an accounting degree from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. After working part-time at various banks during college, I was introduced to the Arkansas State Bank Department by a mutual friend and was offered a bank examiner trainee position in 1995. I have served in many capacities and roles within the agency over the years, including 13 years as deputy commissioner. It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as the Arkansas State Bank commissioner since the fall of 2020. I am very fortunate to have a career that is my passion and my life’s work. It is a joy every day to serve in this position.

Lesson Learned the Hard Way: I always knew that managing a team and being an effective and engaged leader required commitment and patience, but developing and maintaining a strong and successful team is a lesson you must learn and focus on every day.
Proudest Moment of Impact: I am extremely honored by the outreach and positive comments I have received in support of my role as bank commissioner. In recent years, I have been very fortunate to receive opportunities, both regionally and nationally, to share my knowledge and skills in various leadership capacities and represent the regulatory industry. The efforts, impact and reputation of the bank department are all evident in the growth and development of Arkansas state-chartered banks.
Call to Action: Banks are a key source for economic development in every community in Arkansas. Individuals, families, businesses, schools and government benefit from the impact and investment banks provide to Arkansans. In today’s world, consumers have many choices, but choosing to do business with a bank is choosing to contribute to the future of our communities and the state of Arkansas.
