Kim Koch, PE
Founding Principal, Insight Engineering
About me: I am the founding principal of Insight Engineering, a woman-owned and -operated consulting firm serving the build environment in Arkansas communities. My career has been spent building passionate and hardworking teams driven to experiment and innovate to find the best solutions for our clients and communities.
This commitment to further the success of the engineering industry and Arkansas communities has led me to serve in leadership roles with several volunteer organizations including studioMain, Arkansas ASHRAE, Million Women Mentors and the Arkansas STEM Coalition.
On a personal note, I enjoy mountain biking and exploring nature with my children, Thomas and Kathryn. I also love supporting our outstanding local food scene and never turn down an opportunity to try a new spot.

Best Career Advice: Pick up the phone and call. Engaging in direct conversation is the most powerful way to address challenging subjects and establish meaningful connections. Personally, I have been afforded remarkable opportunities that seemed unlikely by simply picking up the phone and asking to be given a chance.
Lesson Learned the Hard Way: There will be unexpected turns in both your personal and professional life. I never expected to be a single mom starting an engineering firm in my mid-40s. It has taught me to keep my eyes open for long-term opportunities, but to only make strict plans for the short term.
What Keeps Me Motivated: When speaking with young professionals, I witness increased diversity with more women and minorities present. However, in leadership meetings, I often find myself as the sole woman. The former fuels my enthusiasm for the future. The latter serves as motivation to continue efforts to expand opportunities for women and minorities.
