Thea Foundation’s Art Department Returns with Angela Davis Johnson

It’s a whole new year and that means new installments of The Thea Foundation’s Art Department. The 10th time around, this young professionals series will feature the work of the award-winning painter, Angela Davis Johnson, with a reception marking the opening of her new exhibit “The Wondrous Possibilities of Falling and Flying” on Friday, Feb. 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Known for her vibrant paintings, Davis Johnson’s work examines universal connections, identity and historical occurrences through personal symbols. If her name sounds familiar, that’s because she made news with a mural on the eastern wall of The House of Art in North Little Rock.

“‘The Wondrous Possibilities of Falling and Flying’ explores the idea of what liberation can look like after perceived failure, whether societal or personal,” Davis Johnson said in a news release. “I began creating work of what appears to be children flying above the city escaping the limitations of negative social constructs, violence and despair into their own imagined sky. In this work I will continue to examine this reimagining of the future.”

The reception is $10 and includes food, an open beer and wine bar, live music from local favorites The Funkanites and the chance to win an original painting by Davis Johnson.

The Thea Foundation gallery’s hours are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 5 p.m. on Monday – Friday, and is located at 401 Main St. in North Little Rock. For more information, call (501)-379-9512 or visit the Facebook event page.
