Thea Foundation to Feature Designer Bryant Phelan in Next Art Department

This isn’t your grandmother’s pocketbook. The handcrafted work of Arkansas native Bryant Phelan is in the spotlight for Thea Foundation’s The Art Department opening on Friday, May 3.

Phelan, who specializes in handcrafted luxury leather goods with his brand O’Faolain, will display some of his unique work in an exhibit titled “Artcessories.” The exhibit will feature one-of-a-kind pieces that explore art movements throughout history, highlighting everything from Egyptian to Renaissance to pop art icons.

“It’s a brand about personality,” Phelan says of O’Faolain. “Taking portions of the personality and putting a magnifying glass on them. I think we all have facets of ourself that we love to embody when we go out or dress up. That’s what I aim to imbue in my work: Personality. It’s all about relating to and loving yourself through art. This art is just wearable.”

An opening reception for “Artcessories” kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Admission includes hors d’oeuvres, an open beer and wine bar and giveaways. The exhibit runs through May 31.

The Thea Foundation gallery’s hours are 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and it is located at 401 Main St. in North Little Rock. For more information, call (501) 379-9512 or click here.
