Thea Foundation’s third 2024 installment of its Art Department series will showcase the work of CC Mercer Watson in an exhibition titled “Leo Season.”
The exhibit, which is an “ancestral homage to those that live, transform and transcend into the stars,” will be displayed at Thea throughout August, with an opening reception on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 5-7:30 p.m.
“Leo Season” is a reflection of self-love through various mediums. It is mythical, spiritual and factual in nature. In her exhibit, Mercer taps into collective star power by charting a fresh interpretation of the zodiac through the lens of the 1970s, folklore and iconography and archetypes of divine bodies.
Mercer is an Arkansas native and multidisciplinary artist. She works as a fiber artist, actor, activist, poet, playwright, author and the executive director of A Black Space. Mercer holds a bachelor’s degree in theater arts and dance from UA Little Rock and a master’s in public service from the Clinton School. She is a public servant, a creative of many talents and the daughter of legendary late civil rights lawyer Christopher C. Mercer Jr. Mercer honors the legacy and heritage of her father by using artistic mediums as a tool for empowerment, education and radical justice.
