The Arkansas Repertory Theatre recently released details about their latest upcoming production, “The Whipping Man,” a John Gassner New Play Award winner.
The show is set in an 1865 Virginia town, racked in the wake of the Civil War. Confederate officer Caleb DeLeon comes home badly wounded just in time to celebrate Passover with the rest of his Jewish family, only to find them missing and only two former slaves, Simon and John, who are forced to take care of him.
What unfolds as they wait for their loved ones’ return is full of pain, faith, horror, strength and secrets.
Gilbert McCauley returns to direct “The Whipping Man” after his success with “Gee’s Bend” in 2013. Don’t miss the show The New York Times calls “haunting, striking and powerful.”
The Rep’s production will run from Jan. 21 – Feb. 8. Click here for a full list of showtimes and to purchase tickets.
