The Top 11 Things to Do in the Metro This Weekend

This is everything you need for another shining weekend in Little Rock.

Friday, June 9

Second Friday Art Night at various locations downtown, Little Rock: It’s time for the monthly roundup of downtown businesses opening their doors for an after-hours gallery walk. Highlights include Boggy Creek Beehives at Bella Vita Jewelry and an opening reception for Gordon and Wenonah Fay Holl: Collecting a Legacy at the Historic Arkansas Museum. More on that here. Other participating locations include the CALS Butler Center, Old State House Museum and Matt McLeod Fine Art. Saturday, June 10

Beer Yoga at Rebel Kettle Brewing, Little Rock: This Saturday, you can recycle that “namaste in bed” joke again or you can grab a beer and hit the mat with people who get you. Join instructor Valerie Talburt on the Rebel Kettle lawn, where it’s just $10 for the class and your first beer. BYO mat and show up early, because they will almost definitely run out of space. Doors open at 9 a.m., beer starts flowing at 9:30 a.m. and the crowd does the same at 10 a.m. For more info, click here.

Running of the Bulls de La Pequeña Roca at the Clinton Center, Little Rock: That’s right, Little Rock. It’s back. Family Promise of Pulaski County and The Van are once again hosting a running of the bulls — except replace the live bulls with roller derby girls. Yes, the ladies of Girls Rollin’ In The South (GRITS) and Central Arkansas Roller Derby (CARD) will chase runners through the streets of downtown for 0.7 miles (and for charity), complete with horned helmets and plastic bats. There’s even a race for the kiddos around the parking lot, live music, bounce houses and Le Pops Ice Lollies. If you think it sounds ridiculous and incredible in the best way, then you’d be correct. The adult start time is 5 p.m. with the kids’ run starting at 4:30 p.m. For more info, click here.

Open Studios throughout Little Rock: Curious about the creative process of local artists? Get a behind-the-scenes look with this “city-wide exhibition” offering a full day of free, firsthand experiences with local artists and cultural institutions specializing in visual and performing arts. The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts at the welcome booth outside Matt McLeod Fine Art in the Creative Corridor. For more info, click here.

And when you’re done, you can stock up on fresh produce at the market next door. It starts at 8:30 a.m. For more info, click here.
