The Style Report: Bottega Strikes Back

Bottega Veneta’s recent revival is somewhat of a fashion fairy tale. The brand, established in the late 1960s, was spotted on the arms of jetsetters like Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis during the ’70s and was Andy Warhol’s muse in the early ’80s. The brand then struggled for a few decades until 2018 when ex-Celine designer Daniel Lee was named creative designer and an entire new Bottega era began.

Since the brand’s creation, Bottega has been recognized by its unique leather weaving technique called intrecciato. Lee reimagined the classic Bottega weave and debuted his exaggerated version in 2019. Fashion fans and industry influencers fell hard for this fresh take on the classic design.

That same year, Lee introduced the brand’s now-iconic pouch bag, the fastest-selling bag in Bottega’s long history, and ushered in the square toe shoe that we now see as one of 2020’s biggest trends.

In a world where most high-end brands stay relevant by making their logo bigger and bolder each season, Bottega has found success without a single logo in sight. While the designs are still identifiable, they evoke an effortlessness and an ease to dressing that makes donning the brand a true dream.
