The Studio Theatre & The Weekend Theater Announce New Executive Directors

In the past week, two of downtown Little Rock’s local theaters have announced new executive directors: Shelby-Allison Hibbs at The Studio Theatre and Amie White at The Weekend Theater.

Hibbs is an Arkansas native who most recently spent six years as a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas at Dallas where she directed a multitude of shows and taught courses in subjects like acting, directing and theater history.

She’s also an award-winning investigative journalist, the co-editor of Texas Theatre Journal, a contributor for Theater Jones and has been published in multiple theater publications.

“I am so thrilled to work with The Studio Theatre and bring them into their next act,” Hibbs says. “I am confident that I can build upon the foundation that [artistic director Justin A. Pike], the board and countless volunteers have created … I am looking forward to expanding support for The Studio Theatre, creating new opportunities for educational programming and engagement and making the space even more of a home for our community.”

Just a few blocks west at The Weekend Theater, White is taking the reins after a decade in the Little Rock arts scene, recently serving as executive director of The Studio Theatre. Moving to Arkansas in 2011, White, her husband and four kids are all active in community theater productions.

White has served on the stage and behind the scenes for many productions throughout her career, and earned much of her practicum hours at The Weekend Theater.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve The Weekend Theater as executive director,” White says. “It feels a lot like coming home, as TWT has been such a large part of my life, and that of my family, since moving to Arkansas. I’m excited for what the future holds for our little black box.”
