The Shack Plans a Return to Shake Up the River Market

After nearly three full years of silence, we finally have an update on The Shack.

The downtown Little Rock barbecue restaurant had a serious cult following when its doors closed more than two decades ago. Then in 2015, The Shack teased a return to the neighborhood, but to no avail.

Now, our sister publication, Arkansas Business, reports The Shack may finally be back, but with consequences for a River Market staple. According to Arkansas Business, Tim Chappell, owner of Gusano’s Pizzeria and the man behind The Shack, the “fluid” plan is to transition the pizzeria into the barbecue joint, leaving a small space for Gusano’s takeout and delivery.

Chappell and Joe Finch, current owner of the Shack brand and recipes, also have another barbecue restaurant in the works named Hickory Joe’s slated for 402 E. Third St. (the same location they teased in 2015) with hopes of opening in spring.
