The Rep Hosts ‘Little Mermaid’-Inspired Ice Cream and Beer Naming Contests

Everyone, stop what you’re doing. You need a second to soak in the incredible news: The Arkansas Repertory Theatre is teaming up with Loblolly Creamery and Moody Brews to host another ice cream contest and a beer contest coinciding with their holiday upcoming production of Disney’s “Little Mermaid.”

Just take a deep breath. It’s about to get better.

To celebrate “Little Mermaid,” Loblolly Creamery will create a specially themed ice cream flavor (sea salt with chocolate chunks!) to be served during intermission at the theater and at Loblolly’s home in the Green Corner Store

Fans can submit a name for the flavor anytime from 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18. The initial submissions will be narrowed down and the top five will be announced on The Rep’s Facebook page. From there, the public can vote from Nov. 19-22, and the name with the most “likes” will get a pint of the special flavor with the winning name on it and two tickets to see “Little Mermaid.”

But that’s not all!

The Rep is also joining forces with Moody Brews at Vino’s Brewpub to create a specialty beverage for the show, which will also be available during intermission and on tap at Vino’s. This brew is a tropical farmhouse/saison style ale fermented atop citrus fruits of lemon, tangerine, pineapple and hibiscus and lightly dry hopped with amarillo (orangey, apricot aroma) hops. Whoa.

The same system will be in place for this naming contest, with submissions being taken Nov. 23-25 and public voting Nov. 26-29. The winner will receive a growler of the beer and two tickets to “Little Mermaid.”

We told you it was getting better. Now stop floundering around and get all your best “Little Mermaid” puns ready. This is going to be good.

Tickets to “Little Mermaid” are available now. You can purchase yours online by visiting The Rep’s website. You can also call (501) 378-0405 or stop by the theater’s box office downtown at 601 Main St., Little Rock.
