The One Where I Went to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra …

I love the symphony. I love music. I especially love live music. So I was naturally excited about my first outing to the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.

I hear nothing but fabulous things about ASO. I’ve even had the chance to photograph a couple ASO events, including a luncheon where I was privileged to meet Philip Mann.

He is as friendly and vivacious in person as he is on stage.

My friend Jon and I got dressed up last Saturday evening and headed downtown. We were both excited to hear the celebration of John Williams’ music. And we’re both big “Star Wars” fans (don’t hold it against me).

I loved the music, but I especially loved the friendly interaction between Philip, the orchestra, and the audience. Robinson Center Music Hall is not a small venue. But somehow it felt very intimate, almost like it was Philip and the ASO playing for a group of friends. Which is I think what makes ASO so fabulous to begin with: the organization’s commitment to beautiful music and to the audience.

I throughly enjoyed my first ASO expereince. From the flying shark (yes, a flying shark floated over the audience as the ASO played the “Jaws” theme) to the sudden appearance of Darth Vader as he took over the show during the “Star Wars” theme. (Seeing Philip dragged out by Storm Troopers was a little unsettling, but very entertaining.)

I hope you take some time to venture out and enjoy ASO as well. For more information about show times click here.
