So long, seasonal affective disorder. Hello, bright, sunshiny days! It seems all of Little Rock has crawled out of its cold weather funk and is on the hunt for fun — myself included. Here are the activities to add to your calendar ASAP.
Cape Not Included
Sorry, I only go by Diana now. Heroes and sheroes of all ages will descend on the Clinton Presidential Center for the DC Wonder Woman Run. With music, a post-race party and lots of costumes, this 5K/10K will definitely bring out that Themyscira power stance.
Frozen? On the Rocks?
Little Rock’s two — yes, two — margarita festivals are returning this month to bring a little salt to the scene. First up is the Arkansas Times Margarita Festival at War Memorial Stadium, followed by the Rock City Margarita Festival at Heifer Village just two days later. Cheers, y’all.
“Be Good.”
Few movies earn the status of cultural icon, but “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” cleared that hurdle in a bicycle basket when it hit theaters in 1982. Now the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra is bringing the magic to life in its last concert of the season with a special screening of Spielberg’s classic accompanied by a live performance of the film score.
Zero to Gyro
No list of springtime activities in Little Rock is complete without mention of the International Greek Food Festival. The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church has 35 years of this fest under its belt, which means you should be packing all the gyros and hummus and baklava under yours that you can. Bonus: Proceeds go to local nonprofits. Pass the spanakopita.
Who Run the World?
I saved the best for last: the Soirée Women’s Leadership Symposium on May 16. I genuinely could not be more excited to spend half a day learning from women who are leading the way in everything from financial literacy to building your brand, plus our keynote speakers theSkimm co-founders Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg.
