Macaroni and cheese is loved by children and adults alike for being comforting, creamy and delicious. And while boxed mac and cheese gets the job done, there’s nothing like a homemade recipe.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, the Argenta Downtown Council will put that to the test with the first-ever Great Southern Mac & Cheese Championship. Held at Argenta Plaza, the event will be a delectable celebration for the whole family with samples from all competitors’ dishes.
Guests will enjoy live music, fun macaroni art and other family-friendly activities along with the cheesy sampler. Kids can also show off their cooking skills, too. Participants can register to compete in three categories as either a pro, amateur or in the kids’ contest.
The top homemade creations will be awarded with cash prizes and awards, including a $400 prize for the top professional winner. Applications are now open and spaces are limited for this full day of good food, memories and friendly competition.
“The Great Southern Mac & Cheese Championship is not just about cooking; it’s about celebrating the joy that mac and cheese brings to people of any age,” says Adrienne Collins, one of the event organizers. “We are thrilled to bring this cheesy event to North Little Rock and create a fun-filled day for the community!”
Tickets to the championship will be available to purchase beginning Monday, Aug. 5. The event will take place from 1-4 p.m.
