We’re calling it: This is the year we treat Little Rock like it’s our valentine. The people, the places, the wide open spaces — we’re embracing the fondness and focusing on how we can build up what we appreciate most. If you’re looking for ideas to do the same, here’s how to live like a walking love letter to LR this month.
FRESHEN UP
Despite our best (worst) efforts as wasteful creatures, the beauty of The Natural State is alive and well in Little Rock, but it’s up to us to make sure it stays that way. Whether you organize a park cleanup or just finally learn what can and can’t be recycled (instead of just dumping it in a bin and hoping for the best), it all adds up to ensure future Arkansans enjoy the same natural beauty.
GET A NEW VIEW
When was the last time you really explored Little Rock? Saw the new exhibit at a popular museum? Took in all the public art? Lace up your walking shoes, put on your tourist-tinted glasses and we promise you’ll see the city with fresh eyes and fall in love all over again. (A great place for touristy ideas is littlerock.com.)
SHOP WITH HEART
Going about our daily routines, it’s easy to habitually visit the same businesses. And while there’s nothing wrong with having favorites, it’s also easy to wind up with a long list of places you’ve “always wanted to try, but never got around to.” Make a decided effort to try that restaurant across town or peruse that bookstore or shop that artist’s Etsy page this month. Who knows? You might just find a new local obsession.
SPREAD THE LOVE
In 1957, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'” Follow his lead and do your best to show actionable love to your neighbors, your coworkers and anyone else around you, not just your family and friends. If you want to reach further, but aren’t sure where to start, check out our Giving Guide, and let’s love Little Rock together.
