The Dish: Go Big with Baja Grill’s Triple Dipper

We’re excited to introduce you to our new feature: The Dish. Each month, we will highlight a favorite dish in the metro on LittleRockSoiree.com. To kick things off, Kevin Shalin of The Mighty Rib highlights the Triple Dipper from Baja Grill.

There’s plenty to like about the newly opened Baja Grill, located at 5923 Kavanaugh in the heart of the Heights. From sizable, pork-stuffed tacos to cheese-topped burritos, diners can expect fresh ingredients and fair prices from this former Benton food truck turned brick-and-mortar.

And before you dive right into one of their tasty entrees, try out the triple dipper (especially if you’re dining with a group). This appetizer includes separate bowls of queso blanco, guacamole and salsa, all served on one plate.

Longtime fans of Baja Grill are already familiar with their delicious white cheese queso, but are likely unaware of the restaurant’s house made guacamole and salsa. The heaping mound of guacamole is slightly chunky, but also creamy, and not overdone with a variety of unnecessary ingredients, while the salsa is packed with chopped tomatoes, onions and cilantro. This latter condiment has a mild heat along with a moderately thick, yet saucy consistency. The accompanying thin chips provide the perfect vessel to transport this trifecta from the plate into your mouth.

The $15 price tag for a large portion (8-oz. bowls of each), which I recommend ordering for a table of four or more, may seem a bit steep, but rest assured, this is a relative steal. It’s nearly impossible to finish and any leftover remnants will quickly be utilized as a taco topping or burrito enhancer.  Plus, you can always order a small (4-oz. bowls) for $10.

So go ahead, add the triple dipper to the growing list of Baja Grill dishes done right. If possible, snag a table on the patio and tackle this appetizer while enjoying the wonderful weather.
