It’s like your elementary school book fair, but better.
The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) will host the Self-Published & Small Press Book Fair (SPSP) on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CALS Main Library located at 100 Rock Street. Through this event, CALS seeks to champion independent authors and the small publishing houses that support them while giving the public an opportunity to connect with and discover new literature.
In years past, the SPSP Book fair has drawn in many locals to take part in the festivities. This year, however, changes are in store that CALS believes will make the day more enjoyable for all.
“SPSP has been a sell-out success the last two times, yet in listening to participants, we thought shifting the locale and modifying the format would enhance the experience,” says Tameka Lee, CALS director of communications.
The book fair will be held on the Main Library’s ground floor for the first time ever, making it front and center within the library. That’s good news for coffee lovers because events will be held right next to The Nexus Nook, allowing easy access to a late-morning fix.
“With the coffee shop and the sculptures on display from the Arkansas Arts Center, Main Library has a different feel than it did when we hosted the book fair two years ago,” Lee says. “We believe the changes will make the event even more visible and memorable for the authors, small press representatives and the public.”
Guests will also be able to listen to each author share their work. This reading component is a new feature in this year’s itinerary and will give guests even more opportunities to connect with the writers behind the books. The schedule for the readings will be announced closer to the date of the event.
Book lovers rejoice, because the SPSP is free to all attendees. Authors looking to participate may register online.
