Test Your Spelling Might at Literacy Action of Central Arkansas’ The Bee

Literacy Action of Central Arkansas is switching things up with their new adults-only event, The Bee. The Bee will take place on Friday, Sept. 21, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub.

Audience members will cheer on their favorite team and compete in spell-offs between rounds. But this isn’t your average spelling bee. There will be creative team names, optional costumes, heavy appetizers, beer and wine, Honeycomb Punch, a silent auction and other opportunities to support literacy.

Ten teams of three will compete throughout the night and will be judged by Jessica DeLoach Sabin, Antwan Phillips and Chris Kent. Each team will work together to spell the word with teammates rotating to spell the word out loud for the judges. Teams are allowed to purchase three “stingers” to buy their way out of trouble. The last standing team wins a trophy created by The Hub.

Admission is $20 per person and team entry is $125. If you’re interested in getting a team together, contact Morgan O’Neil at moneil@literacyactionar.org for more details.

You can also purchase a letter for $100 and be an official Supporter of Literacy for this event. This also includes two audience tickets to The Bee and you will be recognized at the event for the impact you have on literacy in our community.
