Teen Leads Quest for Shoes for Salvation Army

Most high school freshmen don’t plan on spending their Valentine’s Day collecting socks and shoes. Then again, most high school freshmen aren’t Sam Rusk.

Sam, or Samantha, is kickstarting an initiative for February called Sweet Feet from the Soul wherein she’ll collect donations for the male residents of the Salvation Army. Her goal is to have 200 pairs of socks and shoes by the end of February.

Every month, Sam spends a Saturday serving breakfast and volunteering at the Salvation Army. That’s when she noticed how bad the need was, decided to do something about and bam: Sweet Feet from the Soul was born.

So on Valentine’s Day, Sam will be at the Walmart on McCain in North Little Rock. Bring by your new or slightly worn men’s closed-toe shoes and socks between noon and 2 p.m., and help Sweet Feet from the Soul reach its goal.

Can’t make it on Saturday? Pack up your donations early on Friday, Feb. 13, and take them to Boulevard Wine and Spirits from 5-7 p.m. Sam will be there.
