Taste of Tuesday: Tree Lighting Ceremony Cocktail Recipe from Big Orange Midtown

Christmas is coming.

We told you last week that Big Orange Midtown is hosting a special holiday event called the 12 Days of Cocktails. It kicked off this past Saturday and will run through Christmas Eve, so you have plenty of time to partake.

They started off with a bang, or should we say flame, with a drink called the “Tree Lighting Ceremony,” and Big Orange Midtown was kind enough to share the recipe with us.

Warning: It involves fire, so be careful and don’t be a moron.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony Cocktail

Ingredients:

  • Any “navy strength” gin (57% ABV)
  • 2 oz Rogue Spruce gin
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 1 oz 1:1 honey syrup
  • Pinot noir
  • Ice
  • 2 2 in. sprigs of rosemary
  • Lemon wheel

Directions:

  1. Coat the inside of an old fashioned glass with “navy strength” gin. (The folks at Big Orange Midtown use Royal Dock by Hayman’s, a brand not nearly as strong-tasting as 114 proof might suggest.)
  2. To shaker, add Rogue Spruce gin, lemon juice and honey syrup. Shake and set aside.
  3. Place 2 in. long piece of rosemary in glass and light on fire; let burn 2-3 seconds.
  4. Fill glass with ice to put out the flame and double strain drink over top.
  5. Float Pinot noir on top.
  6. Garnish with a short rosemary sprig stuck through the center of a lemon wheel and place in drink.

Enjoy thoroughly, friends. And watch Big Orange sommelier and mixologist Lee Edwards show us all how it’s done.
