Taste of Tuesday: Funnel Cake Cupcake Recipe from Brown Sugar Bakeshop

Batten down the hatches, everyone. The Arkansas State Fair kicks off this week, and Brown Sugar Bakeshop is getting the party started with what might be the most incredible words ever to grace our fingertips: state fair-inspired cupcakes.

Yes, we know. It’s unbelievable. 

For three days (Oct. 7-9), you’ll be able to snag Funnel Cake, Kettle Corn and Lemonade Shake-Up cupcakes at Brown Sugar. But for now, the sisters behind the beautiful madness, Kristi Williams and April Williams, shared one of the coveted recipes with our sister publication, Little Rock Family, who is so kindly sharing with us. And guys, it’s omg-worthy.

 

Funnel Cake Cupcakes

The Ingredients:

Mini Funnel Cakes (for topping)

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Cupcakes

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/4 brown sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs, separated
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of nutmeg
