Every 30 seconds, 10 people experience physical abuse. At some point in their lives, one in three women and one in four men will be physically abused by an intimate partner.
For these reasons and many more, you can get involved in helping Women & Children First get the word out about Domestic Violence Awareness Month during October. The organization is the state’s largest domestic violence shelter, receiving more than 1,5000 calls, helping more than 160 individuals file orders of protection and housing more than 80 victims in just the past two months alone.
To make spreading the word easier, WCF created a 31 Ways in 31 Days calendar with suggestions on how to advocate for the cause all month long. For example, Oct. 4 is Purple Tuesday where people are asked to post a photo of themselves wearing purple with the hashtag #TakeAStand and sharing why they think it’s important to join the conversation.
