Soirée’s 2011 Women To Watch: Laura V. Stanley

Laura V. Stanley, CGA, Vice President, Certified Gemologist,
Stanley Jewelers Gemologist

I love going to work in beautiful historic Park Hill every day. Our workdays are focused on helping our clients and friends celebrate the joyous occasions in their lives. We focus on our customers and community by offering fine diamond and jewelry selections, buying and selling estate and vintage jewelry, and by providing repair/restoration services. We like to exceed expectations and make friends with our clients. Selling beautiful jewelry in the process is a bonus!

ON POWER
People often underestimate the power of staying engaged in their community. In my opinion, it’s the key to living your best life. “Live local!” I felt most powerful when a customer came in asking for a specific and very unusual color and shape of diamond; I knew exactly who to call and how to get the piece in 24 hours. Having the knowledge and ability to get the job done is powerful to me.

A true sign of power is not always asking permission.

ON MOTIVATION
I love it when good jewelry goes home with good people!

Career goal?
My career goal is to always love coming to work and always find a challenge. Also,
I would love an assistant!

ON SUCCESS
I feel I have succeeded in so many ways: a fabulous husband, a fantastic job, wonderful friends and family. I hope I never take these things for granted. But the truth is, the feeling of success is very fluid; it can recede in a flash. When I completed my MBA last year, I felt a huge wave of success. The question is always, “what’s next?”

Eileen Fisher is my absolute favorite. She is relaxed, yet confident and just professional enough to not be stuffy. I love a dress/jacket combo of hers with opaque tights and heels. To me, managing the wardrobe is easier than managing my naturally curly hair. On a power day, I pray for small hair because bigger is not always better.
