Soirée’s 2011 Women To Watch: Amber Gibbons

Amber Gibbons
Real estate broker, Charlotte John Company

After seven years in real estate, I found a company for which I am a perfect fit. I am fully supported by all the agents and brokers at the Charlotte John Company. It’s so nice to be part of a well-respected company that is also innovative and fun. What a wonderful feeling to LOVE your job! I actually look forward to going to work. How rewarding it is to help my clients find a house and make it a home.

ON POWER
People often underestimate the power of patience. This is a constant work-in-progress for me. The objective of my job is to keep all parties on the same side of the fence. If I seem uneasy or show frustration, my clients will also feel that way. Patience is an integral part of my job on a daily basis.

I felt most powerful when I had my most successful year in a turbulent real estate market while raising two small children and having a husband who is in commercial real estate. It’s been an interesting year. A true sign of power is when you are able to admit your faults and weaknesses, learn from them and make changes.

ON MOTIVATION
Why I love this: I couldn’t ask for a more perfect job. I find myself feeding off the success of my peers, and that motivates me. There’s nothing wrong with a little healthy competition.

Career goal? I hope to stay in the business until I become a well-respected, seasoned veteran.

ON SUCCESS
When my child says to me, “I want to be just like you when I grow up.”

It seems as if I always sell a house when on vacation. It’s not much fun to work while trying to relax, however, it usually pays for the trip! So, I won’t complain! I truly appreciate all the business that comes my way. You have to take it when you can because there are definite droughts in this business. I really should go on vacation more often!

Hobbies outside of work?
I love to paint and garden in what little spare time I have. I find it hard to just relax.
