Soirée’s 2010 Women To Watch: Jennifer Pierce

Jennifer Pierce
TITLE : Tax Attorney
COMPANY : Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C.
While I am proud of Mitchell Williams’ 56-year history and diverse professional practice, I am equally proud to be a part of one of the most innovative and forward-thinking law firms in Arkansas. As a tax attorney with Mitchell Williams, I counsel individuals concerning their estate plans. I also represent businesses and tax-exempt organizations regarding business and tax planning. I enjoy assisting my clients in navigating the ever-changing world of tax law. Knowing that I am helping people prepare for the future through estate and business planning is incredibly rewarding.

Best business advice you ever received and who gave it: More than one mentor over the years has told me to always be responsive to my clients. Always return phone calls and emails as soon as possible.
Who consistently inspires you?  People who are willing to unselfishly give back to their communities. The community gives us so much; we should all be willing to give back. What business men and women do you admire the most? Oprah Winfrey.

Favorite Workplace Expression: “Let’s do it again tomorrow!”

Why I Love This
I’m helping people decide how they want to manage their estate or business. No two clients are alike, so I’m constantly mixing things up.

Career Goal
Providing my clients with quality service and being well-respected in the legal community, while giving back to the community.

Best Day Ever
One of my best days is when I walk in and there are flowers on my desk from a client who just wants to say “thanks.” Nothing starts my day better than a bouquet of flowers from an appreciative client!

Worst Day
One of my worst days is when I walk in and nothing goes right! Back-to-back meetings, phone is ringing off the hook, emails keep piling up in my inbox, just found out that I really am going to have to go to a probate hearing and it isn’t even 5 o’clock yet. I still have my committee meeting to go to after work…

Favorite Quote: “Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.”

How will you know when you are successful?  If I work hard, pursue my goals diligently and do my best, I will be successful. And I keep reminding myself that life is a journey, not a destination!
