These pediatric specialists provide expert care for problems related to the eye including childhood cataracts, glaucoma, amblyopia and issues with the retina, cornea or eyelids. New parents often become concerned when they notice their baby’s eyes don’t appear focused or are crossed. If erratic eye behavior — common in newborns — persists after six months, further examination by a pediatrician is recommended. The Eye Center offers specialized treatments from surgery to glasses or contact lenses. Arkansas Children’s provides access to care for the mental and emotional developmental issues that can stem from misaligned eyes.

These dental programs provide care for patients with limited access to traditional dental care due to age, medical or economic limitations. These services are divided into two distinct programs. The first is a hospital-based program that provides complex dental and craniofacial care with a team of specialists for patients with medical, developmental or structural anomalies. This multidisciplinary specialty clinic offers specialized outpatient services for evaluating and treating eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other eating disorders. Parent or family attendance at an educational session is required for patients recommended to this program. The session includes information on causes, medical complications, behavioral and emotional symptoms and treatment of eating disorders. The session will also include discussion of how parents and other family members can be helpful and supportive of their child or adolescent. Additional educational resources will be provided.

ACNC is a research center focusing on improving child health by exploring the links between food and nutrition and optimizing how the body utilizes nutrients throughout development. The rehabilitation therapists collaborate with patients, their caregivers and physicians to establish appropriate, individualized treatment plans for promoting maximum independence and quality of life. Resources at the Department of Rehabilitation at Arkansas Children’s Hospital include pediatric physical and occupational therapists, orthotics and prosthetic specialists and a therapy pool. Medications and other non-invasive therapies are often the first line of treatment. Surgery with pediatric specialists is available as needed. Each patient’s care is personalized to their unique needs.
