A conversation with Jenny Kelly, M.D.
Arkansas Integrative Pediatrics
What is Pediatric Integrative Medicine?
Integrative Medicine is a growing medical approach that uses both conventional and complementary therapies to address whole-person health. Integrative Medicine emphasizes the therapeutic relationship between practitioner and patient, is informed by evidence and addresses all aspects of lifestyle. As a pediatrician, I apply these methods to helping care for children.
Who would benefit from a visit to Arkansas Integrative Pediatrics?
Generally, patients are seeking additional ways to address ongoing conditions or would like to try treatments with fewer side effects than are typical for pharmacologic approaches. Some of the most common conditions seen at AIP are ADHD, anxiety, Autism, depression, eczema, functional abdominal pain, headaches, painful periods and stress management.
What are some of the approaches you recommend to your patients?
AIP offers expanded treatment options specific to your child’s symptoms that also promote broader concepts of health. Nutrition and specialty diets, botanicals, vitamin and mineral supplementation, mindfulness, mind-body work, breathing techniques and physical activity are some of the “alternative” approaches that may be recommended at AIP.
What is the difference in appointments at AIP and our regular pediatrician or family practice doctor?
In a general pediatric clinic setting, time limitations make it challenging to address multiple areas of health during appointments. As a consultation based practice, AIP offers longer appointment times, but you may need only a few visits. Families should maintain their relationship with their regular doctor for acute concerns, check-ups and vaccines.
