These educators have dedicated their careers to investing in young people. Sylvan Hills High head football coach, Chris Hill, is no different.
What did being named Football Coach of the Year mean to you?
Being named the Coach of the Year really has several meanings. First of all, it means we have great players who are willing to work, be coachable and buy into what we are trying to teach. Secondly, it means that we have a great staff who put in lots of hours preparing a team to play and trying to find a way to win. Lastly, it means that we have a great administration that is supportive and gives us every opportunity to be successful.
Why did you decide to make coaching your career?
Coaching is something that I have always wanted to do. I love every part of it, from practice and game planning to off-season training, summer workouts and in-season training. I love watching young men come into the program and grow, mature and become leaders. To me, one of the best parts about coaching is trying to find out what motivates and drives each player. Some are self-starters and some need encouragement. Some need a hug and some need a push in the right direction.
What do you want the community to know about the Sylvan Hills High football program?
I want our football program to be one that the Sherwood community can take pride in. I want the players that go through our program to understand hard work, commitment, loyalty, how to lead, how to encourage and how to be tough (mentally and physically) when times are tough. If we can do this, then we have a successful football program.
