Sixth Annual Shine a Light on Literacy Event to be Held at Governor’s Mansion Sept. 11

The sixth annual Shine a Light on Literacy event will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m., benefitting Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, which provides reading classes for adults and English language skills to non-native adults.

The Literacy Action of Central Arkansas provides their classes free of charge and is fully dependent upon volunteers and donor generosity. Shine a Light on Literacy is an event to help offset some of their expenses, and the chance to show the public the progress they’ve made over the year and the difference they make in people’s lives on a daily basis.

The event will feature music, food and drinks in the Governor’s Mansion with Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe as honorary chair. Guests will also have the opportunity to learn about low literacy in central Arkansas from several students and tutors who will share their experiences with the program. You can also look forward to a sponsorship auction, photo booth and wine pull.

If you’re unable to attend the event, but still wish to donate, Literacy Action has set up an online page to do just that. Click here if interested.
