The 10th annual Seersucker Spring Social takes over the Old State House Museum grounds this month, and we’re sipping accordingly. The event is a welcome herald of springtime in the city, known for its Southern fashions, mint julep sipping and al fresco fun, all in support of the School Bus Fund that enables students to visit OSHM with no transportation costs.
To get into a seersucker state of mind, we’re starting the celebrations early with this refreshing mint julep recipe, complete with its own taste of The Natural State.
Arkie Mint Julep
Yield: 1
Ingredients:
- 8 mint leaves
- 1/4 oz. simple syrup
- 2 oz. Rock Town Arkansas Bourbon Whiskey
- mint sprig for garnish
Directions:
- Gently muddle mint leaves and simple syrup.
- Add the bourbon and top with crushed ice, then stir until the glass is chilled.
- Top with additional ice and garnish with a mint sprig.
Break Tradition: While this cocktail has stood the test of time as a bonafide classic, there’s no reason you can’t still shake things up. Upgrade your garnish with crystalized ginger or orange slices, add a dash of bitters or fresh lemon juice or skip the conventional metal cup like we did and use whatever glass you like.
