Say ‘Hola’ to Taco Beer Burrito

Hope you’re hungry, downtowners.

Taco Beer Burrito is finally opening its doors at 419 East 3rd Street. The brainchild of nano brewery/taproom Blue Canoe Brewing Co. next door, this new restaurant offers dishes with “one-of-a-kind Mexican flair,” according to BCBC’s Ida Cowan.

The menu mostly includes, well, tacos, beer and burritos. You’ll find the bar stocked with an expanded lineup of BCBC brews, wine and margaritas — your choice of lime, strawberry lime, pineapple coconut or peach mango — all on tap.

TBB will also serve up salsas, desserts (hello, plantains and key lime pie) and even vegetarian and gluten-free options as well. What makes the tacos and burritos really special, however, is the meats being slow-cooked in BCBC brews for eight hours. But when they run out, you’ll just have to wait until the next batch.

That’s part of the BCBC/TBB philosophy.

“If you’ve ever been in the taproom, you know that everything we do is small,” Cowan said. “We’re not into mass production. It doesn’t feel real. When your food is this fresh, it takes time.”

Aesthetically, the restaurant carries a funky vibe with bright colors and vintage touches like exposed brick and repurposed church pews. All of this is thanks to the hard work of the employees themselves, who did everything from installing tiled walls and metal baseboards to building the bar and tables from refurbished basketball courts and a giant old spool found in a barn.

“Yeah, it’d be easier to buy tables instead of making them, but where’s the fun in that?” Cowan continued, “The area needs something fun and different like this.”

Taco Beer Burrito will host its soft opening on Cinco de Mayo, as is only fitting. Store hours on that day will be 4-9 p.m., and will follow BCBC hours until making the move to lunch hours in the near future. For now, hours are 4-9 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 1-10 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday.
