Saints & Sinners Takes the Stage this Weekend

It’s finally here.  Arkansas Repertory Theatre’s largest annual fundraiser, Saints and Sinners, returns Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Statehouse Convention Center Wally Allen Ballroom. The 2015 gala is co-chaired by Marla Johnson and James Norris and emceed by KTHV Channel 11’s Craig O’Neill.

This is no ordinary event. Along with dinner and the live and silent auctions, there is also music and dancing. However, the best part of the evening is the entertainment provided by none other than the all-star crew of The Rep.

“Saints and Sinners has the reputation of being the most fun black-tie gala of the year, and I honestly have to agree. The Rep knows entertainment, so everything about the event is infused with theatricality and wonder,” said Norris on The Rep’s website.

And he’s right. If the first half of the 2014 season is any indication of what’s to come, fasten your seat belts.

Proceeds from the gala go toward making more of The Rep’s trademark magic happen on stage, as well as their Summer Musical Theatre Intensive (SMTI) educational program and student matinees, for which a special donation will be taken.

“The Rep is where we gather as a community to learn, share and celebrate what is important to us,” said Johnson. “The theatre means so much to so many of us. Without it as the long-time anchor, there would be no Main Street Revitalization; there would be no Creative Corridor. Without it, we would not be nearly as cool a city!”

In our January issue, we explored life behind the scenes at The Rep, and spoke with all the people who never see the spotlight. Check out the intrepid lot who makes it all happen, including putting on Saints and Sinners in the middle of their Whipping Man run. Click here to read the cover story.
