My destiny began 144 years ago. I am the fourth generation owner of Bennett’s Military Supplies. I began by selling magic tricks at age 11 and through the years have worked at every position in the store. Business aside, my real passion is helping others through organizations like the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Auxiliary, Centers for Youth and Families, PTA and the 20th Century Club. These groups have provided me with lifelong friends and I get to enjoy my passion for event planning and design.
PRESSING QUESTIONS:
What are your goals for the future?
By the end of 2014 I will have five grandchildren, so my goal is to stay young at heart, mind and body. There are no real grown ups; we are all just winging it. Some just do it more confidently.
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing?
My dream job would be a dancer in some music videos. If I had a crystal ball and could have seen the future, I would have paid more attention during childhood to all my tap dancing and ballet lessons.
What’s a fun fact about you that would surprise people?
I can’t carry a tune. My three kids run from the room when I have my headphones on, and as my sister Missy says, “You are NOT allowed to sing in my car!”
How do you define success?
My mother and father taught me what matters most is not what I got, but what I gave; it will not be my success, but my significance; and it’s not what I learned, but what I taught.
What is your best personality trait?
Being accepting of others in their personal thoughts and beliefs. If more people thought this way, I know we would have a much more peaceful planet.
